The Certified Celebrants Association is one of the certifications of Life Celebrations Academy. Both were founded by Wayne and Rosanne Prevett, and they do different jobs on purpose.

The Academy trains. The Association certifies.

Life Celebrations Academy is the school. It trains funeral celebrants, wedding officiants and new life celebrants, and it holds the wider body of resources, field guides and continuing training.

The Certified Celebrants Association is the awarding body for funeral celebrancy. It sets the standard, issues the certificate, holds the public register, and confirms each year that the people on it remain in good standing.

We kept them separate on purpose. A certificate means more when the body issuing it exists to hold a standard rather than to sell a course. It is also why a funeral director can check a name on our register and know that someone confirmed it this year.

What that means if you train with us

The Association

Your two days of training and your certification. Your certificate. Your listing in the public register. The Core Values and the Code of Conduct you uphold.

The Academy

Where your celebrant library lives, with ceremony scripts, readings, scripture, songs and the glossary. One login, and it comes with certification.

You do not register with the Academy separately, and you are not charged for the library. Certification is what opens it.

Beyond your first year

Your first year includes one free eulogy review, because the first year is the hard one. After that, it continues through the Crossroads, the membership at the Academy.

The Crossroads is where the rest of it lives: two full ceremony reviews a year, the wider library including the field guides and three books read in full, an hour one to one with Wayne once a year, and the community of people doing this work.

Certified Celebrants pay 25% less

Your certification earns a standing discount on Crossroads membership, for as long as you hold it. The code comes with your certificate.

If you already work with the Academy

If you have trained as a wedding officiant, you already know the people and the standard. Funeral celebrancy is the other half of the calendar, and it is a shorter step than most officiants expect.

Certification for funeral work is issued here, not there. The training, the register and the certificate are the Association’s.

One more thing

What we teach here works in any province or state. The Association certifies across Canada and the United States, and the rules for funerals differ considerably between provinces and states. We teach you how to find the ones that apply where you serve, rather than pretending one set applies everywhere.
