What does the course fee cover?
Two days of live training with Wayne and Rosanne Prevett, all course materials, your certificate as a printable PDF once your agreement form is in, your listing in the public celebrant directory, access to the member community, and your first year of registration. Your first year also includes one free eulogy review. There is nothing further to pay in your first year.
Is there a deadline to register?
Yes. Registration closes one week before each course.
That is because there is about four hours of pre-course work due the Friday before, and we read the submitted part before day one begins. A week is the least that makes both of those possible.
Once a date closes it does not reopen. If you are deciding between two courses, decide early.
What payment methods do you accept?
Credit card, taken securely at the point of registration. Fees are charged in Canadian dollars.
Do I need to maintain membership after certification?
Yes. Certification is held through annual membership with the Association, which confirms each year that you still stand behind the values, still hold to the Code of Conduct, and remain in good standing.
Your first year of registration is included in the course fee. After that it is $49 CAD a year, invoiced on the anniversary of your certification. No card is stored and nothing is charged automatically. If it goes unpaid, the listing simply lapses.
Do I need any qualifications to enrol?
No. There are no prerequisites. What matters far more is whether the qualities described on The Ideal Candidate sound like you.
Is celebrant certification legally required?
Requirements for funeral celebrants vary considerably between provinces and states, and in many places there are none at all. Certification is a professional standard rather than a licence, and it is your responsibility to check what applies where you intend to serve.
Can I take the course from the United States?
Yes. Training is delivered live via Zoom and is open to participants across Canada and the United States. There is no travel involved. Sessions run on Eastern time and fees are charged in Canadian dollars.
Do I have to attend both days?
Yes. Both days are required for certification, and the eulogy you write and present on day two is part of the course. Cameras stay on throughout, because much of the course is presentation and feedback.
Are there resources after the course?
Yes. Your celebrant library lives inside Life Celebrations Academy and comes with certification. It holds every course download, twelve field guides, both ceremony scripts, readings, scripture, songs and hymns, the glossary and the Reference Series. You reach it with a single login, and you will receive what you need along with your certificate. Access is held through certification in good standing, so it continues for as long as you renew.
