These come from people who came to this work from nursing, from pastoral ministry, from funeral directing, from finance, and from music. Most of them were in the second half of their working lives.

Where it led

Last week I facilitated funeral number 100 on my list. People are very happy with what I do, and some are calling me back a second time because they want me for the next loved one who passes. After a full life as a church musician, online instructor and funeral home office assistant, I am in the career that makes me complete.

Since the training I have been asked by several funeral homes to perform funeral ceremonies. As a licensed funeral director for many years, it gives a completely different perspective on the whole service. Once I got through the first one, the second was easier. Rosanne said it takes about two hundred to be fully comfortable — I have a long way to go, but I am on my way.

Ann · licensed funeral director

I had been twenty-five years in pastoral ministry and had conducted many funerals in that time, but this training took me to a whole new level of connecting with grieving families and helping them celebrate their loved one. Now I approach every funeral with confidence and a passion to serve people in their time of greatest need.

On the training itself

This Funeral Celebrant training is an excellent foundation to understanding your role and the approach and process in being a funeral celebrant, as well as how to deliver a meaningful ceremony that honours the family and the deceased. Wayne and Rosanne were fabulous teachers with an abundance of wisdom to share! I couldn’t get enough and am greatly appreciative for having had the opportunity.

Monika

Wayne and Rosanne are THE most inspiring facilitators — their expertise, authenticity and their ability to connect with others is truly a gift. They’ve given me the confidence to embrace being a funeral celebrant and I’ll always be grateful for that!

The course gave me valuable insight into the role of a funeral officiant. Overall, it was a meaningful, positive learning experience, and I look forward to strengthening my skills, deepening my understanding, and confidently developing into a compassionate, capable funeral officiant.

Myrna-Jean

Wayne delivered an excellent two day course for a Funeral Officiant. Along with stories, scenarios, compassion and the desire to see his students succeed, it was well worth taking the course.

Katherine

It is the best training I have spent money on. Wayne is a straight shooter, a no-nonsense kind of guy, with high integrity, compassion and firmness. Rosanne shares the same traits. People place trust in celebrants to do the right thing correctly the first time — there are no do-overs. It is akin to being a pilot. It is their passion, not their job. It is their lives.

Eugene van den Berg · came from a career in finance

The instructors stood out for both their depth of experience and the way they shared real-life examples from their own careers. Those stories didn’t just show what to expect — they helped me understand how to be prepared for the unexpected. Storytelling is a powerful way to learn.

Jeanne-Louise Albert

I really enjoyed the training and continue to be in awe at how amazing the two of you are. I truly could listen to you both for hours upon hours. I have a ton more confidence thinking about how I react if/when I am called upon to serve a family in this capacity, and for that I’m truly grateful.

I appreciate the universe you’ve opened my eyes to thru the wedding, new life and now funeral celebrant training. It’s been an incredible journey so far and it’s brought me so much joy. THANK YOU.

Les · wedding, new life and funeral celebrant training

The time flew by so quickly that by the end, you felt it was only just beginning.

Lorie

It exceeded my expectations. I learned so much about the industry that I was unaware of, and it was interesting to connect with people from such diverse backgrounds.

Danielle · wedding officiant since 2012

The first service

I did my first funeral yesterday. It went so well and I felt very prepared, thanks to both of you. I just wanted to thank you for setting me off on this path.

Debbie

As I prepare for my first service just a few weeks after the course, I feel compelled to say thank you. It gave me the tools and the confidence to meet with a grieving family and craft a personalized, meaningful tribute for a life well lived.

Sherri Fitch

After twenty years of nursing I decided to further my education in funeral services. I knew I had to become a certified funeral celebrant to bridge my nursing profession with this one.

Why people came

My parents were Catholic and raised us in that faith. Their funerals were so impersonal. When my dad died, I wrote and delivered a tribute at the reception — it ended with the chicken dance, his favourite. I hope to offer the same to families in my community. Maybe without the chicken dance.

Danielle

Upon my mother’s passing in February I made this decision. Today I will dedicate this achievement to her. Your knowledge, candidness and insight into this discipline is phenomenal.

Joyceline

I have been able to touch people’s lives in a time of testing and grief that is deeply personal. It gave me the tools I needed and the confidence to approach each situation with sensitivity and care.

Patti

The training added greatly to my tool-box, and I feel comfortable knowing I have valuable resources behind me.
